Courtney and Kyle first met by happenstance while watching their mutual friends play at a jazz show. He was hogging all the good seats and couldn't say no when a beautiful lady came up and asked if she could sit down. Pretty soon, they were paying more attention to each other than the music. It may have taken a little bit of Facebook stalking, and some well-placed messages, but sooner than later the two became inseparable. So much so that they ended up heading off to Japan only after a month of dating. Having nothing more than a "japlan" scribbled down on a napkin, they ended up having a crazy adventure and falling madly in love.
Fast forward about a year, and Courtney and Kyle have had their fair share of memorable experiences in the Pacific Northwest: snow camping, beach trekking, mountain climbing, lama stalking, yurting, hot-springing, you get the idea… But more importantly, they have grown closer together, and have learned to share their skills and expertise with one another. Kyle, for example, has become very familiar with cockatiels, sewing machines, and something called "flavor profiles", thanks to Courtney. And Courtney has become more adventurous in the outdoors, and has started to appreciate the wonders of rolling out with a lacrosse ball and foam roller. Together they stretch, laugh, and smile a lot more.
Recognizing a good thing when he saw it, it didn't take too long for Kyle to ask for Courtney's hand in marriage. It all went down on Courtney's bird-watching-birthday-weekend in Port Townsend. After having successfully spotted a few puffins on a cruise the day before, they went down to the Fort Worden State Park beach with their pet cockatiels to enjoy a picnic. Kyle, as he's prone to do, started building a driftwood fort from which Courtney holed up with a pair of binoculars to watch the bird life. After a little while, and a little food, Kyle fumbled around in his pocket and started to pour his heart out to Courtney. With bated breath, and the presentation of a ring, he asked to be her husband and life partner…
Spoiler alert: she said YES! Now, the two are preparing for their next chapter in life - extended travel throughout South America, Europe, and South East Asia! After the wedding, they plan to uproot, and experience life on the road for anywhere from 3-12 months before they come back to Seattle, and take on life as a team~
